Welcome, Beth! Please tell us a bit about your book.

Happy AF is your comprehensive roadmap for happiness. Drawing heavily from neuroscience, positive psychology, and behavioral science, the straightforward strategies and exercises in this how-to guide will teach you how to strengthen your happiness muscle and live up to your greatest potential.

What was the spark? What drew you to write a book about this topic? What inspired you to tell this particular story?

My own personal journey. 2020 leveled me. Think Old Testament-like devastation. I always say that I didn’t set out to write a book, but rather the book set out to right me. Not digging rock bottom, I embraced a proactive approach to regaining happiness. Simple strategies, all backed by clinical research.

What was your research process like for Happy AF?

Very intense, almost like I was back in school! I’m passionate about research and clinical data supporting all theoretical premises. Otherwise, it’s merely conjecture or opinion. It was essential that all the suggestions and strategies in the book are backed by clinical research. As you know, there is a growing niche in self-help books in which the narrative style is practical, illuminating, and easy to read with an irreverent voice. Not many have of those utilize research and clinical data as their backbone. There are over 2,000 studies and books referenced in this book. It’s almost like a thesis dissertation…for cool people J

From your perspective, what’s the hardest thing about writing and researching? And what do you love most about it?

Writing a research-based book adds a different dimension to the work and workload. But for me, knowledge is power, and researching the clinical data was not only enlightening but affirming. Without the data, it would simply be more autobiographical than a comprehensive self-help guide. The clinical data provides supporting evidence for the efficacies of the strategies discussed in the book. It was important for me to deliver the data in a way that was easily digestible and fun to read as opposed to literary melatonin.

What’s capturing your imagination these days outside of reading and writing?

I moved back East after a 30-year sojourn on the West Coast. Being back in Philadelphia has been so amazing. So, I have been spending time with my family and reacquainting myself with the city. And yes, this includes being a city sport Phanatic as it comes with the territory, especially when living in South Philly.

Any new writing (or other) projects in the works?

I’ve started research on my next project. I’m writing a book on love, dating, and relationships. I have enough backstory to create a series!

Where can readers find you (website, blog, social media, etc.)? Feel free to include any upcoming, events, too!

Yes!! I would love to connect!
