Author Name: Amy Lorowitz

Book Title: Summer Husband

Book Genre: Romance

Release Date: 5/19/2026

Welcome, Amy! Please tell us about Summer Husband.

What happens at sleepaway camp when the campers aren’t watching.

What sparked the idea for this book?

The book is about a 39-year-old woman who goes to sleepaway camp for the first time with her daughters. I did do that for seven summers. Working at camp those summers provided me with the idea for Summer Husband but the book is completely fictional.

How long did it take for you to write the book? Did you do any research?

Let me start by saying I’ve been an avid reader my entire life. At one point I was in three book clubs simultaneously. One of those was a mother/daughter book club with my then fourth grader. I knew nothing about writing a book, but I always thought I had a book in me. Basically, I’d been thinking about writing since I was 10 years old.

Fast forward several decades and I’ve been a proud member of bestselling author Jennifer Belle’s writing workshop since 2013. I’ve been writing this book for well over 10 years! As I referenced above, I worked at a sleepaway camp for seven summers so my research was being immersed in camp culture.

What about the writing/editing/publishing process has been the most surprising to you so far?

As ridiculous as this sounds, writing the book was the easiest part and that’s coming from someone who had no prior writing experience. Editing had me in hysterics, both tears and laughing over commas! Seems there are a lot of varying opinions about commas. I sent my manuscript to 107 agents – 14 of them read the book but none were willing to take me as a client. I eventually found my publishing family with She Writes Press. They held my hand through this process, and I am forever grateful for their wisdom and expertise. I highly recommend them.

Any words of wisdom you give your pre-published writer self (or to a new writer)?

First and maybe my only piece of advice is you need to have thick skin. From brutally honest reactions about your writing, to rejection or worse no response at all. Since I had no prior experience writing a book, I did not take the criticism to heart. I happily took what I agreed with and ignored the rest.

Writing became my passion. You have to enjoy it otherwise it can be a slog, and no one wants to spend their days doing something they dread.

Summer Husband

A compelling blend of sexy and nostalgic, this summer camp romance follows thirty-nine-year-old mom Lori Kramer as she finds out you’re never too old to learn the life lessons—or experience the romances—that sleepaway camp has to offer.
Is thirty-nine too old to get your first sleepaway camp kiss?
Lori Kramer, a stay-at-home mom, would go to any length to give her two daughters the summer experience of their lives—even getting a job at their camp and tagging along with them.
At Camp Woodlands, Lori finds herself overseeing the chaos of four bunks filled with rambunctious kids and their counselors, not to mention having to outwit her boss and outrun a bear—and that’s just during the first half of the summer! But those escapades are child’s play compared to her growing friendship and attraction to Teddy, the camp’s British soccer coach. Their clandestine meetings late at night behind the laundry shack, breaking the no-smoking rule, soon turn hot and steamy like a lazy August afternoon.
Camp may be for kids, but Lori’s the one having the most fun. She never imagined that stepping outside of her conventional, underappreciated, New York City existence would turn her world upside down and change her life forever.
