Welcome, Kris! What sparked the idea for your novel?

A visit to the Gruene Dance Hall in 2007 sparked the story set in the Texas Hill Country. The original idea came for Lark’s story, but as I realized a series might result, I added characters to serve as the threads to pull for future stories.

How long did it take for you to write the book? Did you do have to do any research?

I wrote the book in about four months. In between writing other manuscripts and lots of R&R’s, I revised the manuscript until I felt it had arrived at the right place for the reader.

If you were speaking to someone who hasn’t read your writing before, why should they want to read Goodbye, Lark Lovejoy?

They can expect the emotional spectrum akin to a long weekend at an emotive family reunion. Expect old pains, new discoveries, some tears, and plenty of laughs.

What about the writing/editing/publishing processed has been the most surprising to you so far?

The tight knit writing community rallies around its own.

I love that! What advice would you give your pre-published writer self?

Just keep writing. Don’t let the haters get you down.

What are your interests outside of writing and reading?

I’m a foodie who loves to cook for her loved ones. Cooking is organic and reflexive, and it helps me unwind at the end of the day.

Are you working on a new project? Please tell us about it.

I’m writing the third book in the Enchanted Rock series and plotting the first book in my Eastborough series.

Goodbye, Lark Lovejoy

Lark’s lost her husband, and the expiration date has come and gone on her fake-it-till-you-make-it “Happy Mommy Show.” Healing her broken family requires drastic measures—like returning to her hometown in the Texas Hill Country. But she’s going to need more than clean air and a pastoral landscape to rebuild a life for her and her young sons.

After years of putting off her dream of becoming a winemaker, Lark puts every cent into a failing vineyard, determined to work through her grief and make a brighter future for her children. The last thing she expects is to fall in love again. Especially not with Wyatt Gifford, an injured Army vet with a past of his own to conquer.

Coming home may not be the reset Lark imagined, but it does take her on a journey filled with humor and reconciliation—one that prepares her for a courageous comeback.
