Please give us a bit of an idea about your books.

A meddling best friend, bluegrass jams, small town gossip – with humor and plenty of romance, of course.  Learning how to be who you are outside of who you were told to be.

What was the initial spark?

My own life.  Both of my books are complete fiction … yet, there’s a kernel of truth too.  I took something that happened to me, such as the death of my brother, and applied my feelings of grief and guilt to a fictional world.  You can read that story in The Guilt of a Sparrow.  Then I turned my experience as a child growing up with divorced parents, and an alcoholic parent, into a book.  The absolute need to keep at a distance, to spare yourself pain, influenced the main character of Fierce Grace.

How long did it take for you to write the books? Did you do have to do any research?

No research, per se.  I start with ideas for characters, then what they’re going through (the internal battle), then I start writing and follow the journey.  There are often surprises – for me – along the way.  I wrote Fierce Grace in a couple months, several years back.  Then completely rewrote it the first couple months of this year, giving it new life, and making it something I’d want to publish.  I’m so happy to share it with the world.

If you were speaking to someone who hasn’t read your writing before, why should they want to read the your books?

I’m a sucker for emotion, and I want the readers to know they should expect ups and downs, deep thoughts, and a struggle to overcome.  My books are character driven in a big way.

What’s one piece of advice you would offer your younger writer self?

Keep writing.  Don’t be afraid to tell your story!

What are your interests outside of writing and reading?

I’m a homeschooling mother, and most of my time and energy go to my kids. They are in a gigging bluegrass band, and we spent a great deal of time focused on shows, practices, and now recording.  When I have some downtime, I like to walk, to knit, and of course to read.

Fierce Grace

A fierce connection…

Annabelle Dare is in a good place. She landed a sweet job, teaching at the quaint Fox River Elementary School. She has everything she needs: teaching music and sharing an apartment with her best friend. A simple life, she’s convinced, is all she needs.

Asher Grace knows who he is and what he has to offer. Nothing. A poor boy from the wrong side of town, steel worker, with too much weight on his shoulders as he is trying to hold his family together. Best choice is avoiding too-sweet-for-her-own-good Annabelle at all costs.

Annabelle falls in love with the way she comes to life with Asher. He awakens a hunger for life and love in her that she didn’t know she possessed.

Asher must learn his worth beyond his upbringing and his past. Annabelle must learn to stoke the fire of life as it burns within her and learn how close she can get before the flames lick her.

Author bio:

Jess B. Moore is a writer of love stories. When she’s not writing, she’s busy mothering her talented and stubborn children, reading obscene numbers of books, and knitting scarves she’ll likely never finish.

Jess lives in small town North Carolina with her bluegrass obsessed family. She takes too many pictures of her cat, thinking the Internet loves him as much as she does. She is a firm believer of swapping stories over coffee or wine, and that there should always be dark chocolate involved.

The Guilt of a Sparrow is her debut novel combining her interests in family, music, and small towns into a thoughtful tale of growing up and falling in love. Her second book, Fierce Grace, follows similar themes in a whole new way, and can be read as a tie-in or stand-alone. The Worth of a Penny (a true sequel to Sparrow) will be out Spring of 2019.
